It's been about a week now since Montana FWP closed a nearly 200 mile stretch of the Yellowstone River from the Yellowstone National Park border and all of its tributaries. News of the fish kill has become national news, and since the closure there has not been much for updates here are some links that we think best describe what has been going on.
With the closure of the Yellowstone, we have not seen too much added pressure on the Gallatin River. The Upper Madison has not been too crazy either, but apparently the Lower Madison has seen the bulk of the pressure. We can't stress enough the importance of cleaning any and all gear in between river outings. Plenty of great fishing options exist in the area.
- This article by Hatch Magazine does a great job of explaining why FWP closed the river as well as insight into previous events with the parasite.
