Pheasant Tail

Hook: Dai-Riki 060 #12-22
Thread: 8/0 Black, Brown, Rust, etc
Tail: Pheasant Tail Fibers
Body: Pheasant Tail Fibers
Rib: Fine Copper Wire
Thorax: Peacock Herl
Wingcase: Pheasant Tail Fibers (add pearl tinsel for flashback if desired)
Legs: Pheasant Tail Fibers


Soft Hackle Pheasant Tail

Hook: Dai-Riki 060 #12-22
Thread: 6/0 or 8/0 red
Tail: Pheasant Tail Fibers
Body: Pheasant Tail Fibers
Rib: Fine Copper Wire
Thorax: Peacock Herl
Hackle: Hungarian Partridge or Hen Neck Hackle
Collar: Red Hackle or Hare's Ear Dubbing


The Pheasant Tail is one of the most important patterns for trout fly fishing period. Although these patterns are considered beginner patterns hopefully even the more experienced tyers will learn some techniques that will improve their tying.
