Wednesday Night Fly Tying...LaFontaine Sparkle Emerger

Gary LaFontaine Sparkle Emerger

Recipe

Hook: Standard Dry Fly Hook, Sizes 12-18

Thread: Black 8/0 or 70 Denier or color to match head/thorax

Trailing Shuck: Antron yarn (cream, olive or color to match)

Underbody: Antron/rabbit blend

Body (bubble): Antron yarn (cream, olive or color to match)

Head/thorax: Hare's Ear/Rabbit Dubbing (black or brown typically)

Designed by late fly designer and author Gary LaFontaine to mimic emerging caddis that he studies on the Madison and local rivers. Not an exceptionally popular pattern anymore, but still a fish getter. Can be dead-drifted, as a dropper and most commonly swung through riffles or areas where caddis happen to be emerging.
